This time we come across an uninhabited island, where Tom Nook sent us. His development company Nook Inc. plans to develop it, and our task is to do so on its behalf. We land on the spot only with a minimum of supplies and, like a shipwrecked man, we will have to create all the tools and items needed to build a settlement.
Contrary to the previous editions, where the player ended up in a ready and inhabited settlement, here the focus was on building from scratch. This is facilitated by the mechanics of obtaining recipes, i.e. classic crafting schemes that we can buy, get or unlock. Some items require items previously crafted from simpler ingredients, so we are dealing with crafting chains. Items can also be sold and bought, allowing you to bypass the crafting process - but remember that, with the exception of the most essential tools and resources, the selection of goods in the store changes daily. Most of the items can be placed both indoors and outdoors. We can also move them freely and put one on another. This gives you endless possibilities for decorating your surroundings. There are also options for planting and growing plants, fishing, catching butterflies and other creatures and digging up fossils. Captured specimens can be displayed in your home or donated to a local museum.
The tradition of the series is to link the time in the game world with real time. So the appearance of the surroundings changes according to the time of day and season in the real world. Some creatures can only be found after dusk, and mushrooms, for example, will only grow in autumn. Every smallest activity is recorded in the Nook Miles system, which, after exceeding certain thresholds, will award us for it. The game also features a photo mode with filters and character poses.
The game offers a local co-op of 4 players and a network co-op of up to 8 people. Teammates not only visit our world, but for the first time in the series, they can interact with it, helping to build.
The graphic style is a continuation of the concept known from previous editions. It is characterized by a charming, eye-catching aesthetics. Much attention was paid to the sound layer. All sounds were recorded with the help of corresponding objects, and some even in natural surroundings. The creators' intention was to make them sound natural and relaxing.
